Happy International Women’s Day to the Women of Global Logistics
The global logistics and freight forwarding industry has long been a male-dominated field, with women representing just 10-20% of the workforce.
However, times are changing. We are seeing an increase in the number of women stepping into prominent roles, ensuring the efficient movement of goods and tackling of supply chain challenges, bringing expertise, adaptability, and a quick-thinking problem-solving mindset to the sector. At Peters & May, we’re proud to be advocating this change and challenging the ‘norm’.
Throughout our business we are defying industry averages, with women making up two-thirds of our Freight Forwarding team and over half of our CEC team.
Women in management
From warehouse operations to senior management, women have historically been underrepresented at all levels of logistics, and this extends across the leisure marine and commercial sectors too.
We believe in talent over tradition, and this is evident within our leadership teams. In our Freight Forwarding division, women are equally represented at management level providing valuable input in the operational success of our business.
As Nicky Bull, Business Development Manager, explains:
“Freight forwarding is all about plate-spinning and multi-tasking – a skill that the women in our team excel at!
It’s more than just moving goods from A to B, we pride ourselves on building close relationships with our clients, understanding their full context and pain points. Every shipment presents its own challenges, but the satisfaction of seeing everything come together and run smoothly is second to none.”
Talent over tradition
At Peters & May, we’re committed to building an inclusive workplace culture that recognises talent over tradition, leveraging the unique specialities each member of the team has to offer.
The women in our Freight Forwarding and CEC teams bring together over 225 years of combined experience across multimodal shipments, complex customs challenges, and tailored shipping solutions! This figure is a reminder of the integral part females play in our industry, and a reminder that although they have been underrepresented, they have been here all along
This International Women’s Day, we are celebrating the talented women not just within Peters & May but across the entire global logistics landscape too.
Here’s to the women in global logistics who are keeping international trade moving, one shipment at a time.
